Somerset provides special education services for students 5 through 22 years of age, identified as needing special education services.
Somerset believes all students have the capacity to grow and learn and should be treated with respect and dignity.
Somerset’s overriding goal is to provide children an opportunity to experience success in structured individualized educational and therapeutic settings in an effort to shift their inner working model to a more positive functional one.
Basketball, Flag Football, and Softball teams practice daily and compete with other nonpublic schools during the week at alternating school sites. The primary focus is on sportsmanship and ability of the students to participate appropriately in competitive environments.

Through individualized planning, integrated services, community based, holistic and culturally competent practice, students at Somerset can overcome serious emotional difficulties and reach their fullest potential.

Through selection and participation in individualized evidenced based interventions, the student will develop strong academic and behavioral skills. Empowerment, self-definition, hope and meaningful roles encompass the delivery method that develops the individual. A student will develop an academic knowledge and a set of tools and techniques to assist him/her to restore and develop the ability to live independently, socialize and use effective life management skills.

Faculty & Staff

Somerset offers students a full continuum of services provided by our highly qualified staff that includes: Credentialed Special Education Teachers, a variety of Licensed Therapists, Certified Pro-Act Instructors and a First Aid, CPR Instructor. Our Credentialed Education Coordinator works closely with students and school districts to ensure comprehensive curriculum and IEP compliance, while collaborating with parents, districts and other agencies to provide services for our students.

Our teachers and staff bring a wealth of knowledge to our school with over 65 years in special education experience. This dedicated staff provides the leadership and education necessary for the success of our students. All Somerset educational employees are trained in Pro-Act Crisis Intervention and Positive Behavior Intervention. The Somerset staff is also trained in TEACCH, PECs and DTT.

In addition to the experienced teaching staff, Somerset has classroom assistants for each class, all with Behavior Intervention Training. Our extended day program offers a licensed therapist and additional mental health facilitators as a part of the classroom team.

Somerset collaborates with various universities to mentor and develop Special Education Teachers, and Counselors, thus ensuring the continued development of Special Education Professionals.

Somerset provides their own transportation services and students are able to participate in community and vocational experiences off campus and in the community on a regular basis.
